Vision, Movement Coordination and Learning
A seminar for parents and professionals (including Feldenkrais, ABM, JKA, MBS, & Childspace Practitioners, care-takers, medical doctors, physical therapists, teachers, vision therapist, etc.)
In October 2016, Nancy Aberle and Lynn Bullock will give a Feldenkrais and ABM seminar for parents and professionals in Malmö about WORKING with CHILDREN. Within the Feldenkrais Without Borders Project, Nancy has given workshops for parents and professionals in Zagreb since 2013. In Zürich, where she has her full-time practice, she started giving similar workshops in 2006. Nancy's co-instructor Lynn Bullock, is also an ABM and Feldenkrais Practitioner and creator of Insight Into Vision. Lynn has worked closely with Nancy for many years and has a full-time practice in Paris, working mainly with children with special needs.
The theme of the Malmö seminar is: Vision, Movement Coordination and Learning
The seminar consists of three parts:
October 21, 2016 - PRACTITIONERS ONLY
Techniques to empower parents to use ideas about ” Vision, Movement Coordination and Learning”. Specific introduction of the children who will be having Functional Integration Lessons on October 24-25. Practitioner preparation through Awareness Through Movement and FI practice related to the challenges that these children face.
October 22-23, 2016 - theoretical and practical part for PARENTS and PROFESSIONALS (including Practitioners)
Using Awareness through Movement group lessons and hands on techniques Nancy and Lynn will explain a few of the main principles of the method and how these principles can be used to improve vision, movement coordination and learning. Both parents and professionals can benefit from these movements and hands on techniques that can be playfully applied in daily life. The seminar will be designed to meet the needs of the children and parents attending.
October 24-25, 2016 - Children's Clinic
Free individual lessons (Functional Integration, FI) for the children and an opportunity for parents to ask questions and talk about the application of this method with their own child. Specific guidance regarding daily-life situations and how to create better learning conditions at home. If time allows, the practitioners will have an hour or two alone with Nancy and Lynn for questions and supervision regarding FI techniques and empowering parents.
Children with disabilities often need support to learn movement progressions that other children experiment with spontaneously. How can parents and professionals use techniques and ideas from this gentle non-invasive method to help children play with the next developmental “milestone”?
Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais said: “Every emotional state corresponds to a person’s conditioned pattern of muscular contractions.” The use of our eyes and our hands are directly affected by our conditioned pattern of muscular contractions.
The Feldenkrais approach is based on neuroscience and uses movement to send new information to the brain. The skill that adults have to provide this information can create new and relevant neural pathways in the child’s brain. Helping a child to improve their ability to perceive themselves and to act as they intend can improve all areas of a child’s life, be it physical, emotional or mental.
A team of experienced Feldenkrais and Anat Baniel Method Practitioners will be giving free lessons to the children and their families who attend the seminar.
